PR-08-105 -- PSC Sets Intervention Deadline In Kansas City Power & Light Request

Contact: Kevin Kelly (573) 751-9300

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- JANUARY 28, 2008

JEFFERSON CITY—Kansas City Power & Light Company (KCPL) has filed an application with the Missouri Public Service Commission seeking a waiver or variance from a commission order in the company’s most recent rate case pertaining to certain all-electric and electric heating customers of KCPL.

In its rate case decision last December, the commission determined that the availability of KCPL’s general service all-electric tariffs and separately-metered space heating rates should be restricted to those qualifying customers’ commercial and industrial physical locations being served under those tariffs as of January 1, 2008.

In its filing, KCPL seeks a waiver or variance from the commission’s decision which would allow those customers who committed financial resources based upon their expectation that those rates would be available even though they had not received that service by January 1, 2008, to receive service under those tariffs.

Applications to intervene and participate in this case must be filed no later than February 13, 2008 with the Secretary of the Missouri Public Service Commission, P.O. Box 360, Jefferson City, Missouri 65102.  Copies of the application should be sent to: James M. Fischer, Esq., Fischer & Dority, P.C., 101 Madison Street, Suite 400, Jefferson City, Missouri 65101; Curtis D. Blanc, Esq., Kansas City Power & Light Company, 1201 Walnut-20th Floor, Kansas City, Missouri 64106; and the Office of the Public Counsel, P.O. Box 2230, Jefferson City, Missouri 65102-2230.

The Office of the Public Counsel is a separate state agency that represents the general public in matters before the commission.  Individual citizens wishing to comment should contact either the Office of the Public Counsel (Governor Office Building, 200 Madison Street, Suite 650, P.O. Box 2230, Jefferson City, Missouri 65102-2230, telephone (866) 922-2959, e-mail opcservice@ded.mo.gov) or the Public Service Commission staff (P.O. Box 360, Jefferson City, Missouri 65102, telephone 1-800-392-4211, e-mail pscinfo@psc.mo.gov).

KCPL serves approximately 271,000 electric customers in 13 western Missouri counties.
