The Missouri Public Service Commission regulates investor-owned electric, steam, natural gas, water and sewer and telephone companies. Its mission is to ensure Missouri consumers have access to safe, reliable and reasonably priced utility service while allowing those utility companies under our jurisdiction an opportunity to earn a reasonable return on their investment. The PSC also regulates manufacturers and retail dealers who sell new and used manufactured homes and modular units. The commission was established in 1913. The PSC is comprised of five commissioners, who are appointed by the governor.

JEFFERSON CITY—The Missouri Public Service Commission will hold a local public hearing in Carrollton, Missouri, on August 20, 2007, to receive customer comments on an electric rate case filed by Kansas City Power & Light Company (KCPL). This local public hearing will also give customers an opportunity to bring any service related issues to the Commission’s attention.

KCPL filed its rate request with the Missouri Public Service Commission on February 1, 2007. According to its press release, KCPL is seeking to increase annual electric revenues by approximately $45 million (8.3%). KCPL states a typical Missouri residential customer would see electric rates increased by approximately $6.00 a month under the Company’s proposal.
KCPL serves approximately 271,000 electric customers in western Missouri.
