FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- AUGUST 30, 2007
JEFFERSON CITY—The Missouri Public Service Commission has approved an agreement which authorizes Aquila, Inc. to build an electric distribution substation in Clay County. According to the agreement, Aquila, Inc. needs to build the electric distribution substation to accommodate the increasing demand for electricity in Clay County. The substation and related facilities will be constructed near the City of Smithville.
The agreement states that allowing Aquila to construct the new substation (the Pope Lane Substation) will provide several benefits including: additional power for the rapidly growing area, reducing loads on existing substations, providing an alternate power source for local and regional customers and increasing system reliability.
The agreement was reached between the PSC Staff, the Office of the Public Counsel and Aquila, Inc.
Reviewing the information in this case, the Commission finds that it is reasonable and lawful to approve the agreement granting Aquila’s request to construct the Pope Lane Substation near Smithville.
