JEFFERSON CITY---Union Electric Company d/b/a AmerenUE has filed an application with the Missouri Public Service Commission seeking to extend, for at least another three years, its participation in the Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator, Inc. (Midwest ISO).

Box 360, Jefferson City, Missouri 65102. Copies of the application should be sent to: James B. Lowery, Smith Lewis, LLP, Suite 200, City Centre Building, 111 South Ninth Street, P.O. The Office of the Public Counsel is a separate state agency that represents the general public in matters before the commission. Individual citizens wishing to comment should contact either the Office of the Public Counsel (Governor Office Building, 200 Madison Street, Suite 650, P.O. Box 2230, Jefferson City, Missouri 65102-2230, telephone 573-751-4857, e-mail opcservice@ded.mo.gov) or the Public Service Commission staff (P.O. Box 360, Jefferson City, Missouri 65102, telephone 1-800-392-4211, e-mail pscinfo@psc.mo.gov).
On February 26, 2004, the Public Service Commission approved an agreement granting AmerenUE authority to transfer functional control of its electric transmission system to the Midwest ISO. The agreement provided that AmerenUE’s authority to participate in the Midwest ISO would expire five years after the date AmerenUE transferred functional control of its transmission system to the Midwest ISO. AmerenUE transferred that control on May 1, 2004. Therefore, AmerenUE’s authority to participate in the Midwest ISO will expire on April 30, 2009.
The agreement approved by the commission in 2004 required AmerenUE to make a filing with the commission by November 1, 2007, addressing continued participation in the Midwest ISO. AmerenUE made the required filing along with a cost-benefit analysis which was also required.
AmerenUE states that its cost-benefit analysis indicates continued participation in the Midwest ISO is appropriate for at least another three years and therefore the company has requested an extension of its authority to participate in the Midwest ISO until April 30, 2012.
