The Missouri Public Service Commission regulates investor-owned electric, steam, natural gas, water and sewer and telephone companies. Its mission is to ensure Missouri consumers have access to safe, reliable and reasonably priced utility service while allowing those utility companies under our jurisdiction an opportunity to earn a reasonable return on their investment. The PSC also regulates manufacturers and retail dealers who sell new and used manufactured homes and modular units. The commission was established in 1913. The PSC is comprised of five commissioners, who are appointed by the governor.

JEFFERSON CITY—The Missouri Public Service Commission will hold nine local public hearings in September to receive customer comment on water and sewer rate cases filed by the Missouri-American Water Company.  The schedule appears below:

 

September 8--Mexico.  Mexico Telecommunication Community Resource Center (TCRC), ITV Room, 2900 Doreli Lane.

September 9--Warrensburg.  University of Central Missouri, James C. Kirkpatrick Library, Room 1430, Corner of Clark and McGuire Streets.

September 9--Parkville.  Park University, McCoy Meetin’ House, 8700 Northwest River Park Drive.

September 16--Joplin.  Missouri Southern State University, Webster Hall, 3950 East Newman Road.

September 22--St. Joseph.  Missouri Western University, Spratt Hall, Room 201, 4525 Downs Drive.

September 23--St. Charles.  St. Charles Administration Building, Room 115, 201 North Second Street.

September 23--Jefferson City.  Governor Office Building, Room 310, 200 Madison Street.

September 24--St. Louis.  University of Missouri-St. Louis, Millennium Student Center (MSC), Century Room A, One University Drive.

September 25--Kirkwood.  St. Louis Community College-Meramec Campus, Business Administration Building, Room 105, 11333 Big Bend Road.

 

A question and answer session will be conducted at all of the local public hearings from 6:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.  All local public hearings will be held from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. or until all of those who wish to testify have done so, whichever is sooner.

 

The local public hearings will be held in facilities that meet the accessibility requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act.  Any person who needs additional accommodations to participate in the hearings should call the Public Service Commission’s hotline at 1-800-392-4211 (voice) or Relay Missouri at 711 before the hearings.

  On March 31, 2008, the Missouri-American Water Company filed a rate request with the Missouri Public Service Commission seeking to increase annual water operating revenues by approximately $49.6 million and annual sewer operating revenues by approximately $133,000.

The impact of the proposed increase on the average residential customer, by district, according to the company’s filing, appears below:
