The Missouri Public Service Commission regulates investor-owned electric, steam, natural gas, water and sewer and telephone companies. Its mission is to ensure Missouri consumers have access to safe, reliable and reasonably priced utility service while allowing those utility companies under our jurisdiction an opportunity to earn a reasonable return on their investment. The PSC also regulates manufacturers and retail dealers who sell new and used manufactured homes and modular units. The commission was established in 1913. The PSC is comprised of five commissioners, who are appointed by the governor.

PR-08-24 -- PSC Staff Files Second Complaint Against Suburban Water & Sewer

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE --  AUGUST 13, 2007

      JEFFERSON CITY—The Missouri Public Service Commission has directed the PSC Staff to investigate the quality of water being supplied by the Suburban Water and Sewer Company and Gordon Burnam as well as the methods used in supplying and distributing the water for any purpose.

      The Commission’s order to conduct an investigation comes after the PSC Staff filed a second complaint against the water company. As part of the July 27, 2007 complaint, the PSC Staff asked the Commission to allow it to investigate the water quality of the company.

      The complaint also asked the Commission to require the water company and Burnam to make reasonable improvements to the water system to promote the public interest, preserve the public health and protect Suburban’s customers.

       The PSC Staff is to complete its investigation and prepare a report concerning the results of that investigation no later than September 20, 2007.

       In late July, the Commission held hearings on a PSC Staff complaint filed against the water company. In the complaint filed on May 29, 2007, the PSC Staff alleged the water company violated some of the terms of an agreement it reached with the PSC Staff and the Office of the Public Counsel in a 2005 water rate case.

      Suburban Water and Sewer Company serves approximately 150 water customers in the Bon-Gor Estates Subdivision near Columbia, Missouri.
