FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- DECEMBER 17, 2007

JEFFERSON CITY—The Missouri Public Service Commission has approved an application filed by the Missouri-American Water Company (Missouri-American) to purchase a water system from the Paradise Valley Residents Association.  The water system, serving a subdivision of approximately 175 homes, is located in Jefferson County near High Ridge, Missouri.

Once Missouri-American acquires the distribution system, it plans to construct a main and booster station to connect that system with Missouri-American’s water supply and distribution system that already serves adjacent areas.

After Missouri-American acquires the Paradise Valley system, the residents of that subdivision will pay a $15 per month surcharge in addition to the existing quarterly rates established in Missouri-American’s St. Louis County service area tariff.  The surcharge would be used to help offset Missouri-American’s costs to connect the Paradise Valley system to its existing system.

The PSC staff recommended the application be approved stating Missouri-American’s proposed acquisition of the Paradise Valley water system will promote the public interest because reliable central water service is desirable for this area, which has experienced water supply problems under its current water system.

Based upon a review of the evidence presented in this case, the commission has determined the application should be approved.

Missouri-American Water Company serves approximately 459,000 water customers in 10 districts in Missouri.
